In 1988 William Eskridge
left the employment
of the Washtenaw County Sheriff Department.
He claimed that he was taking "early
retirement" to assume the position of township supervisor at neighboring Northfield
Township, Michigan. Since then, the police department has been the focus of numerous
complaints, including several civil suites filed by police officers for
wrongful dismissal.
Eskridge lost the (re)election for
Township Supervisor in 1996.
When
a police officer blew the whistle on illegal activities going on inside
Eskridge's police department he got fired.
